Poppy Day

On this day of remembrance, the humans are remembering all of those who died in battle, who sacrificed their lives for a lofty cause. I, merely a humble animal, wish to remember all of those animals who gave their lives in service to their humans in wars and battles, doing what they were told because of devotion to people and their causes, that they neither understood nor deemed of any importance, for it does not matter to a dog.

What matters to dogs is that they please their humans, no matter what; they do not judge, scorn, condemn or engage in treacherous acts, and it is this sublime sense of service by which God deigns to make an example to humanity from which those astute enough might learn.

Today, gratuitously, I recall the Normandy invasion - D-Day, with particular attention to Eisenhower"s code-names for sections on Omaha beach: Charlie, Dog and Fox. And I tip a whisker for all of those canines and other furry creatures who helped their humans doing what was bid them.

I agree we should all give thanks and remembrance for those of our kind that willing gave their lives to protect the ideals of humans. We should also remember all those “innocents” whose lives, homes and families were snuffed out without a thought by the horrific war machines all in the name of peace. Many areas were so scarred from fire, bombs and poisons they were uninhabital to the native species for scores years. We are their descendants and must always keep their memories in our hearts.
